There are several parts to a wedding ceremony - some ceremonies have more than others, but these are parts that just about every wedding ceremony has, no matter whether it's performed in a church or by a justice of the peace in the city hall.
Wedding vows
These are the vows that the bride and groom say to one another. They can be the traditional wedding vows, or they can be written by the bride and groom together. The bride and groom promise to love one another and stay faithful, no matter what happens.
Exchanging of the rings
Sometimes it's just the woman who wears the wedding band, but usually both the man and the woman wear a wedding band. These are made from either gold, silver, platinum, and sometimes titanium.
Pronouncement of marriage
This is where the person performing the ceremony pronounces the couple husband and wife, and introduces them as Mr. and Mrs. before the witnesses who have gathered there.
Of course, there are other parts to the wedding ceremonies that people have, depending on their preferences.
Biblical readings
Some people have taken to incorporating friends and family reading from the Bible into their wedding ceremony. It adds a nice touch and it allows more people to participate in the wedding ceremony even if they aren't able to be in the wedding party.
Soloist
Another thing that people have are soloists singing during their wedding. Again, it's not something that is required, but it gives the wedding a personal touch and is nicer than simply having an organ playing throughout the ceremony.
Mass
If the couple is Catholic, they may have a Catholic mass as part of their wedding ceremony. Communion is offered and these ceremonies are some of the most beautiful and heartfelt there are.
No matter what kind of wedding ceremony that you have, you can make it as personal and special as you and your fiance' are. Make your wedding ceremony what you want it to be, and don't let anyone tell you that it's wrong. This is your special day and you should be able to write your own vows, if you want to have a soloist, or you want to have people doing readings, you should be able to do it.
